September/October Newsflash 2008

Our very dear Family and Friends,

This comes with our love as always. As many of you may
know that we were visited by Hurricane Ike in the early
hours of September 13th and were without any power or
telephones for almost a full week. Some of our Lodge
families are still without power. The utility crews came
in from all over the States and from Canada to help and are
continuing to do an amazing job. There were downed trees
everywhere and winds of 95 miles per hour. We have been
blessed; for the most part the hurricane did minor water
damage to our buildings and lots of tree limbs are
scattered about the land. The air is filled with the hum
of chain saws, and moving limbs and a big bonfire
continues. Our Dave set up a small generator outside the
Retreat Center and connected the refrigerator and some
lights… he and Dotty even hosted a small dinner for those
of us ‘refugees’ in the immediate area! We are blessed
beyond words.

Many of you will have heard of the passing of our dearly
loved Jack, Jane Sorbi’s husband. He had been ill for some
time. His last week was spent at home, no electricity or
water, but an army of dedicated friends joined together to
love and tend to his comfort and care. A wonderfully
welcome cool-front moved in and the silent evenings were
spent hearing the rustle of leaves and the calls of the
creatures in the woods outside. Jane and her family send
deep and heartfelt thanks to all of you who have given such
incredibly kind support over the past months. A Memorial
Service will be held this weekend on Saturday September
27th, 2008, at 11 a.m. in the Temple. Anyone wishing to
remember Jack may do so with a gift to support the care of
our land here at Saint John’s which he loved so well.

We are gearing up for the first weekend retreat in October:
Wolf Wisdom Weekend. The weather is ideal at this time and
just right to be outside, even if a little on the warm
side! We are encouraged to know that some of our 2009
retreats are already receiving bookings; we so much look
forward to seeing as many of you as possible this fall or
in the year ahead. To see the line up, please click on the
retreats button at our website: www.whiteaglelodge.org

Anne Bassett sends a reminder; the new 2009 Calendars are
in and now ready for shipping. The theme of the Calendar is
the Ray of Beauty and there are some really lovely
photographs and of course some wonderful White Eagle
sayings included.

Our prayers remain with those who have been hit so hard in
the hurricane, and indeed with those around the world who
are challenged in so many diverse ways. We know all is in
Divine Order, and so we grow together in love and
understanding. Bless you all! This comes with love from
every one of us, your family at Saint John’s.

White Eagle’s words from the Gentle Brother follow…

From the Gentle Brother:

“The path of life on which you have set your feet is high
and steep but it is not unconquerable. Many have climbed
this path before you, some are half-way up, some are right
at the top, but those who are at the top are not unmindful
of you and your efforts. They come unseen, unheard, to
give you strength, to give you light, to enfold you in
their love.

The work of mankind on earth is to learn how to manifest
the love and the beauty of God. And these companions of
your spirit whom you have known in former lives are with
you to help you. They are your servers, serving you with
all the riches of heaven. They guide you and help you to
learn your lessons; they are with you in sorrow and
perplexity to strengthen you and in joy to help you to be
happy.

Each time you are tempted to resort to the weakness and
error of the lower mind and of the material world, instead
of being overcome by these temptations of the lower self
you respond to the light of the higher self or the
prompting of your guide, who fills your being with love and
humility, so you grow stronger, you take a step forward and
upwards towards your goal.

Yet still the journey seems long and you become
discouraged, and begin to think you will never reach the
golden heaven. We know my children, we know; but come to
bring you good cheer, for joy must be your companion on
this path leading to the heart of the Father. We
understand the weariness of the flesh, the mind and the
spirit, but we know too that there comes without fail a
sustaining refreshing grace to uphold the weary traveler on
his journey.

We are with you, with great love, sometimes with humor (for
we have a great sense of kindly humor you know). We
suggest you too encourage humor. Keep your eyes twinkling
– you will be surprised how this will help!
